What Got Chamán Started on Music
Chamán came from a musical family where her grandmother was a musician, grandfather, singer, and mother played the guitar. Besides that, most of Chamán's relatives are also musicians. So, that motivated her to be a musician.
Chamán's Formal Musical Training
Despite her amazing music capabilities, Chamán has had no formal school training in music. She was only taught by her grandmother how to play the piano and sing, among other things.
Her First Performance
Chamán's performance took place when she was about three years old. It was at a family party, and they loved getting together and play music.
The Importance of Music to Chamán
Like most musicians, Chamán loves music because it allows her to express herself. Music enables her to live in the present moment and also alleviates any pain that she might be experiencing. Basically, Chamán loves music because it livens up her soul.
Chamán's Recent Projects
Currently, Chamán is working on her first solo release, which is an EP. The album is the first of its kind, as she'll be releasing it in English. Chamán previously recorded two other albums that were done in Spanish.
COVID's Impact on Chamán's Music
For Chamán, the COVID pandemic has been like a double-edged sword experience. That's because the pandemic has given her a lot more time to spend with her family and children. While she doesn't mind that, she has had little time to work on her craft since her kids are home all the time.
How Chamán Does it All
With more things to distract her, it has taken Chamán longer to release her new EP. However, Chamán does seem to find ways to make room to practice her music. Chamán decided to implement a strict schedule that would always have time for her art. Currently, she's had to wait for her husband to be done with work so they can schedule music time. However, this is only after Chamán has made everything readily available for her family, including dinner and other essentials.
Chamán on Keeping Holiday Traditions Alive with Music
Although Chamán and her family can't meet up and enjoy a nice holiday moment together with friends and extended family, she still values their holiday traditions.
They are still going to keep the holiday spirit alive by singing together virtually via Zoom. Chamán loves the holiday traditions and hopes that people find a way to connect with their loved ones during this isolating time. Chamán believes that it's very important for musicians to develop schedules that fully prioritize their music work. On the other hand, for the musicians with enough time, Chamán suggests maximizing that opportunity and working immensely on their art.
