Jonnea Trujillo - Cheering Into Her Future

Cheering Into the Future

My name is Jonnea Trujillo. Some of my peers know me as Jolly J. I am 18 years old. I am a Senior at Taos High School. I am Senior Class President, Co-Captain of the THS Varsity Cheer Team, and Taos Municipal Schools female student school board representative. I have also been part of the Leadership Class at Taos High for the last three years. I am an honor student and have been inducted into the National Honor Society.I’ve been cheering since I was four years old. I’ve had the privilege of being an All-Stars cheerleader with Taos Xtreme and Santa Fe Elite Spirit. This is my 5th year as a Varsity Cheerleader.  I’ve cheered at Taos High School and Questa High School. I am also a 2x State Champion.  In addition,  I also played Volleyball and Basketball in Questa.

Jonnea and Family Life

My mom is an alumni of Taos High School, and my dad is from Denver, Colorado, with his family roots “Aqui en Taos.” I have four older brothers who I look up to, Cruz, Andres, Marcus, and Isaiah. I am also an aunt to three beautiful nieces and a nephew on the way. We are an athletic family. We spent a lot of time in gyms and fields.

Her Goals for the Future

My goal is to join the United States Air Force Reserves and go to college. I have been thinking about following my mom’s footsteps and go into education or radiology. I am also interested in the Space Force Program in the Air Force Reserves. But right now, I am very focused on my academics and my goals. I have high expectations for myself.  It is also important to serve others and give back to my community.  Some specific examples of how I have shown leadership are through my volunteer activities. I have volunteered with Taos Feeds Taos, CYFD Holiday Drive, Rachel’s Challenge Bullying Awareness Program, Taos County Clean-up Day, United Services Blood Drive, and reading to students at Ranchos Elementary School and now Taos Integrative School of Arts.

What Makes Jonnea Stand Out

What makes me unique is that I am a well-rounded spirited student.  I always have a smile on my face and do not allow anything or anyone to rob my job. I do my best to set a good example for others to follow. This past year has definitely been a challenge. We live in unprecedented times, and I would have never thought that my Senior year would be this way.  I am actually doing well in Remote Learning. I feel that I am more organized. It has made me grow up and be more responsible. I had to learn how to manage my time better and keep to a schedule. The Class of 2021 has missed out on so much.  We have missed face-to-face instruction, homecoming, prom, and many other activities due to COVID-19. Even though it has been challenging, we remain optimistic, strong, and resilient. My advice to my classmates is to find their True North and never to lose hope. I would tell them to stay focused and follow their dreams. My main message would be to Stay Positive and Never forget to SMILE!
